The story behind the name
How did the name smartPerform actually come about? There is a story behind every brand name – and often also a vision. In conversation with Jens Gerken and Werner König, it becomes clear how much more there is behind the name than just a nice-sounding word.
Werner König
Co-founder of smartPerform. Today Professor for Interaction Design and Usability at Worms University of Applied Sciences.
Jens Gerken
Co-founder of smartPerform. Today Professor at TU Dortmund University for Inclusive Human-Robot Interaction.
What is behind the name “smartPerform”?
Jens Gerken: You have to tell me how it got its name, because I wasn’t even there yet. When I arrived, the thing was already called smartPerform.
Werner König: The name smartPerform actually reflects what the basic idea behind ICT was: namely intelligent presentation. And that was certainly also the added value – and still is: to be able to present and perform in a completely different way, to convince, to inspire, to inspire. And that’s what the name should practically bring to the table.
And of course “smart” because with smartPerform we have already been able to respond very, very flexibly to customer requirements and bring together the various logics. Whether it’s a large showroom with RFID chips, with tokens, with whatever – in other words, many sensor systems that can be connected to it.
In this respect, smartPerform is not just a marketing name, but also a promise.
More than just a name
The name smartPerform is therefore far more than just a label: it stands for a vision that is still carried forward today – intelligent presentation, flexible response to customer needs and the combination of innovative technologies. A promise that forms the basis for inspiration and enthusiasm, then as now.
